Brighton Rock

Brighton RockBrighton Rock by Graham Greene

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is a gut punch. I don't think it's the best first foray into Greene, and it's not my favorite. But it kept sneaking up me. While it's not a pleasant story, he never fails to hook you (or me anyway). It still easily upholds Greene as my favorite novelist, and the ending was a great example of a final, sickening button at the bottom of the last page.

ps.   "Hale knew, before he had been in Brighton three hours, that they meant to murder him."

Not a shabby first sentence either.
